Television boost for unsigned band

AN ASHBOURNE band is set to appear on a BBC1 TV drama next month.

The Rash

Home-grown band The Rash, made up of four former Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School pupils, has been picked out to provide music for a return of popular crime drama Inspector George Gently.

The four 21-year-olds, Bobby Eccles, John Dell, Nathan Harrison and John Steele were whisked down to Snorkel Studios in London for a two-day long recording session writing and recording three new songs especially for the TV series after they were spotted online.

The band began by uploading their acoustic folk music onto the website ‘Carbon Logic’; a website created for unsigned acts to share their music online and quickly became ‘most played’ and ‘top rated’ on the site.

They stayed on the top spot for the following four months and attracted the attention of Pete Saville, the music supervisor for the Inspector George Gently Series.

The Rash have found themselves in the hub of the TV industry more than once this year, with their song ‘Bows And Arrows’ being featured on Channel 4 soap, Hollyoaks at the beginning of June.

Band member Nathan said: “When Pete first contacted us and told us about his high hopes for our track we didn’t expect anything to come from it. Next thing we knew we were being played on Hollyoaks.

“Then he said he needed some music for George Gently and we took him more seriously. We recorded a demo the same night on an iphone and were given the job the following day.” Filming for the Inspector George Gently series took place in Newcastle, where two of the three new songs will be performed on screen by The Rash who will be playing as an up and coming act called ‘The Walking Dead’ on a hit TV show called ‘Upside Down’ alongside Neil Morrissey.

As well as the TV appearance, The Rash are also back at home in Ashbourne performing at The Bridge in Dig Street on Saturday, September 3 and their CD will be on sale there.

They are also playing on Friday, September 2 at Derbyshire’s Green Peaks Eco festival. Tickets are on sale from the Knockerdown Pub, near Carsington.

The new tracks will all be available for download after the show has aired, and for more information visit the band’s facebook page.
